Knowledge

A basic understanding of a topic related to psychology qualifies as knowledge in the psychological discourse. This understanding is based on factual evidence. For example, in the article, “The Danish High Risk and Resilience Study – VIA 7 – a cohort study of 520 7-year-old children born of parents diagnosed with either schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or neither of these two mental disorders”, the researchers show a basic understanding for the psychological topic of Schizophrenia. This basic understanding, or knowledge, is shown with the sentence, “Schizophrenia is known as a severe and complex mental disorder, most likely caused by several interacting genetic and environmental factors, each having only a limited effect and predictive value. The dominating hypothesis is that schizophrenia is a neurodevelopmental disorder” (Thorup et. al., 2).
